This collection of brooches, crafted from mother-of-pearl and silver, was inspired by the beautiful Ten Symbols of Longevity. The upper mother-of-pearl wings, hand cut by a traditional mother-of-pearl lacquer craftsman, and the lower silver wings are supported by special springs (15K gold) that allow them to express the flapping motions of a butterfly’s wings. Using both traditional techniques for mother-of-pearl lacquer and the stone setting technique of jewelry making, this piece conveys harmony between past and present. The twelve butterfly brooches, crafted from a variety of colorful mother-of-pearls(white, red, and black) and silvers (white, yellow, and black ), seem to spring to life at any time and beat their wings, leading us onto a path towards the past and the future.
